K3’s Debut at the Classic Paddle
A first for Perth. Three K3’s competed in the Classic Paddle. A lot fewer than the 80 seen at this year’s Fish River Canoe marathon but added variety to the race. None of the crews were competitive racers but were out to paddle for fun. All the three crews varied composition,  the family crew of Kevin, Wendy and Adam White paddled, the social paddling crew and the novice mixed crew.  The one thing all the K3's had in common was at least one member of their crew would not have paddled had they not been offed a seat in a K3. The K3’s are very stable and even with an unfit or novice crew can maintain a reasonable speed. They provide the opportunity for novice or unfit paddlers to experience to fun of events like the classic paddle, an evening club race or just a social paddle.

After the race Kevin who has been a competitive paddler for over 20 years said "paddling a race in the same kayak as my son (Adam) and wife (Wendy) was a real thrill for me and I would like to thank the organisers for making it possible". Wendy added “I have done a few races with Kevin in a K2 but the opportunity of having Adam in the boat as well was very special”. Kirsten from the mixed crew said “Normally I’m the supprt crew. I loved the experience of the race, paddling through the waves and even passing a few singles. We did not fall in so hopefully I will be asked again”.
